Shane Wise, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Fellow
Background
Shane Wise, Ph.D. graduated from the Pennsylvania State University doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and completed his predoctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute Department of Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Wise has experience providing a range of psychotherapeutic treatments to help those suffering with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), family strife, and challenging life transitions. Dr. Wise’s graduate training specialized in the treatment of childhood disorders, and as such, he is experienced providing support for parents in addressing behavioral concerns, supporting child development, or coping with the often-overwhelming stress of parenting.
Dr. Wise also has a particular interest in supporting the healing process for those who have suffered from traumatic experiences. He has trained extensively in administering Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), the gold standard treatment for youth PTSD, in the Kennedy Krieger Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress under the directorship of Dr. Daniel Hoover, Ph.D., APBB.
Dr. Wise believes in the importance of providing high-quality and effective therapy to his clients. His work utilizes an integrative approach based on principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). These tools have been shown to help people navigate distress and live happier, more fulfilled lives. Dr. Wise views therapy as a collaborative process between client and therapist. He believes that his most important role as a therapist is to support and empower clients. To that end, Dr. Wise takes a non-judgmental, flexible stance in treatment to help clients address their needs and thrive as individuals.
Dr. Wise is licensed as a Psychology Associate in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. Dr. Wise is available to provide assessment services. He enjoys spending time with his wife and son, his friends, and his dog. He can often be found enjoying nature, playing basketball, or taking some quiet time to himself.
