What is ACT?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of CBT that emphasizes the use of mindfulness and acceptance to increase people’s psychological flexibility.  This allows people to choose behaviors that are consistent with their values in order to live a more satisfying and fulfilling life.  ACT has been shown to be an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, OCD, chronic pain, substance abuse and other problems of living.

A number of the therapists at Capital Institute offer ACT and/or integrate ACT principles and techniques in their therapy work.
