Background

Rachel Thomas, Psy.D. is a graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, DC Campus. She completed her predoctoral internship with the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health where she worked in an outpatient community mental health clinic serving young adults (aged 16-26) with serious mental illness. Prior to that, Dr. Thomas provided individual and group therapy to adults struggling with substance use disorders at Mountain Manor Treatment Center in Baltimore, MD. Additionally, she worked at Friendship Public Charter Schools with elementary and middle school students receiving behavioral health support via special education services. Dr. Thomas takes a collaborative and non-judgmental approach to therapy, emphasizing clients’ strengths and values to help them achieve their goals. She utilizes techniques and skills from various evidence-based therapies including CBT, DBT, ACT, and exposure-based trauma therapies to meet her clients’ needs. Dr. Thomas’ clinical interests include trauma, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, serious mental illness, and relationship/interpersonal difficulties. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming and sees children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Thomas provides in-person and telehealth services to clients at our Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD offices. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new recipes, hanging out with family or friends, and playing with her two cats, Night and Arya.
